DescriptionThe First Judicial District is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Court Operations Supervisor to join the Dakota County District Court Administration team! This position is part of the Dakota County Court Management team and will supervise operations and staff in Traffic/Criminal Division. This Court Operations Supervisor position is responsible for supervisory and technical work.
The primary work location is in the Dakota County Western Service Center, 14955 Galaxie Avenue West, Apple Valley, MN 55124. Standard hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
What You Will Do
The following are examples of major job duties expected of this position:
- Processes and directly supervises the processing of all cases filed in the assigned court, division or unit and matters relating to maintenance of financial control over receipts and disbursements and special accounts. Assigns, directs, supervises, and coordinates the work of all subordinate staff of the unit making provisions for hiring and training of such staff.
- Directs the workflow of the division to ensure that work is fairly distributed, that priority work is handled promptly and that deadlines are met.
- Develops, recommends and implements new policies and procedures to comply with current statutes and regulations as they pertain to the division; and simplify work processes so that the division operates more efficiently.
- Provides orientation to staff members regarding new rules and legislation pertinent to the division and updates appropriate manuals for current use.
- Interprets statutes, rules and orders and provides recommendations on procedural questions to attorneys, subordinates and the general public.
- Participates in and supervises a major functional area of the district court involving case intake, case management, criminal, traffic, or juvenile; supervises the preparation of court orders, bonds, judgments, and warrants; prepares or supervises the preparation of court calendars and various dockets.
- Maintains employee personnel records and payroll, inventory, equipment maintenance, and the management and disposition of court records.
- Performs a wide variety of complex court clerical and supervisory clerical assignments; reviews and processes legal documents, assures completeness and accuracy of court records; schedules cases, may be responsible for a specialized case processing activity such as preparing appeals; answers
procedural questions for staff; works with supervisor and subordinate staff to develop and implement new procedures and responds to changes in the law.

- Graduation from an approved high school/GED or vocation school; considerable experience as a Court Operations Associate and some supervisory experience.
Nice to Have
- Associate or bachelor's degree in business, public administration, management, criminal justice, or related field.
- Two or more years of experience as a Court Operations Assoicate.
- One or more years of supervisory experience.

- Thorough knowledge of court procedures and policies, legal documents, laws and legal factors pertaining to the court or area of assignment.
- Thorough knowledge of the organization, operations, functions, and scope of authority of the court or activity to which assigned.
- Considerable knowledge of effective supervisory and management techniques.
- Considerable knowledge of the automated court information system.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to make work decisions in accordance with law, regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain a variety of complex records and prepare reports from such records.
- Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate employees engaged in a variety of court activities.
- Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
