DescriptionWe are currently seeking candidates for the role of Contract Buyer to join our JDI Supply Chain team. The Contract Buyer supports sourcing strategy execution by coordinating RFx activities, evaluating supplier proposals, supporting negotiations, and managing supplier contracts and relationships. This role works closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure timely, compliant procurement of goods and services, while supporting cost, schedule, and risk objectives.
We are looking for a self-motivated professional that enjoys problem solving, collaborating with others and has an aptitude for sourcing and relationship building. This position is located at our head office in Saint John, New Brunswick.
What To Expect in a Typical Day:
- Coordinate with internal teams (engineering, operations, maintenance, project management) to execute sourcing initiatives and resolve procurement issues
- Issue and monitor RFx; engage with suppliers to request pricing, lead times, and clarify commercial scope details, including applicable terms and conditions
- Manage day‑to‑day supplier interactions, including communication on pricing, delivery schedules, performance issues, and contract compliance
- Support contract administration activities, including, amendments, extensions, and compliance tracking
- Balance competing priorities and respond to urgent site or project requirements in a fast‑paced environment
Responsibilities
- Procure goods and services through sourcing, RFx, negotiations, and purchase order execution
- Support the implementation and execution of established sourcing and contracting strategies
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
- Enable informed decision‑making by identifying opportunities to consolidate spend and providing competitive sourcing options, pricing analysis, and recommendations
- Meet regularly with suppliers to manage day‑to‑day performance, support issue resolution, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure all sourcing and purchasing activities comply with supply management standards, approval authorities, and procurement policies
- Manage priorities effectively while responding to urgent or changing business requirements
- Maintain accurate procurement documentation and master data in accordance with supply management policies
Qualifications
- Post‑secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or a related business role
- Working knowledge of strategic procurement, contracting, and supplier relationship management
- Basic understanding of contract terms, negotiations, and procurement best practices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and customer service focus
- Experience supporting projects, industrial environments, or operational procurement is considered an asset
