Working closely with the purchasing supervisor, this role is a development role
that will give the candidate exposure to Linamar’s Purchasing policies and
strategies on a global basis. The purpose of the role is to develop employees
so that they can become senior buyers at either a corporate level or at a plant
level. Taking direction from the purchasing supervisor responsible for the
procurement and consolidation of MRO and Consumable purchases. Duties include
contract negotiations, consolidation, linking and leveraging volumes, contract
renewal or cancellation, identifying potential new sources of supply, assessing
service and/or product quality, attending CAT and PAT meetings as required,
benchmarking purchases globally, assisting the plants is supplier crisis
management, collaborating with internal stakeholders.

Performance Expectations
· Support, Foster, Promote and Demonstrate Linamar’s Core Values and

· Reductions in Linamar’s purchase costs in commodity / area of
responsibility by linking and leveraging spend. Use leverage, VA/VE, and value
stream mapping techniques to eliminate waste and reduce purchase costs.
· Become an expert buyer in your commodity, understanding options of
supply, cost breakdowns and cost analysis, use benchmarking techniques to
compare various supplier’s processes and benchmarks.
· Develop the sourcing strategy for the commodity you are responsible
for, balancing total cost, quality, and risk. Up to and including alternative
sourcing to mitigate potential single source risks.
· Establish long term supply agreements with Suppliers, ensuring that
key clauses are executed and enforced.
· Identify potential new sources of supply that offer more competitive
solutions to Linamar than what exists today.
· Review purchase orders for accuracy and required detail matching the
supply contracts and our customer’s contracts.
· Support plants in crisis management with suppliers relating to
quality, delivery/capacity short falls.
· Occasionally act as liaison between suppliers and plants.
· May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or
assigned.
Credentials
· Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Business Administration, or related field,
or an equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided both
theoretical and practical knowledge in the field.
· Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications,
with the ability to communicate technical information to suppliers and internal
staff. Communicate with co-workers, customers and suppliers about operational
matters.

· Ability to work independently, but also work in teams with co-workers
and suppliers.
· Strong communications skills both internally and externally with
suppliers.
· Strong computer skills, including the use of ERPs, spreadsheets, and
PowerPoint.
