Job Summary:
The Buyer is responsible for the purchasing of packaging and indirect materials for each Pure Flavor location. The Buyer conducts RFQs, negotiates, completes cost analyses, and reviews efficiencies on all packaging materials. The Buyer liaises with the Mexico Packaging Co-Ordinator for communication of preferred suppliers to farms located in Mexico and leads/assists in conflict resolution. The Buyer provides pricing and preferred vendors to the Packaging Co-Ordinator's for PO execution on select materials.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the purchasing of packaging materials for use in production.
- Negotiate and create Purchase Orders based on planned forecast and/or min/max levels.
- Conduct RFQs to ensure best vendor is partnered with.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors for approval by Senior Management. Ensure cost, cash, quality and innovation are at the forefront of all vendor partnerships.
- Responsible for managing Vendor Inventory.
- Ensure supply levels are properly maintained for all required materials to avoid out of stock.
- Work closely with the Packaging Engineer to understand new packaging requirements (NPD, Packaging Changes, Customer Changes) and ensure contracts/POs are in place to support new items.
- Routinely meet and communicate with vendors to ensure product quality and deliveries meet company expectations.
- Track vendor performance for review with vendors.
- Ensure new and existing packaging suppliers provide letters of compliance for food safety.
- Support and implement Supply Chain best practices and efficiency improvements.
- Ensure all activities support and strengthen the strategic objectives of the overall organization.
- Other duties will be assigned as required by Manager and will vary depending on employee experience as well as production seasonality.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education is required; degree in purchasing, supply chain management or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of previous purchasing experience is required; experience in the produce/agriculture industry is ideal.
- Dashboard reporting experience preferred.
- Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- An attention to detail as well as analytical and planning skills are essential.
- Must be a sound decision maker and able to work in a high stress environment.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Health and Safety, Food Safety and HACCP is beneficial.
- Ability to speak Spanish is an asset
Working Conditions:
- Hours of work may vary depending on business needs; willingness and ability to travel, must have a valid passport with no restrictions.
- Conditions typically found in an office setting with occasional duties within a refrigerated warehouse, where temperatures range from 45-55°F. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to packaging machinery, and forklift truck operation.
- Role requires the ability to listen and speak to other employees.
- Role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. Specific vision capabilities required; employee is to work in front of a computer, sitting for prolonged periods is required.
- The position may involve needing to lift up to 30-pounds, occasionally up to 50-pounds.
Compensation & Benefits:
This position offers a salary range of $55,000 – $70,000 CAD annually, commensurate with experience, skills, and internal equity. In addition, Pure Flavor provides a competitive total rewards package that includes company-paid benefits, RRSP matching, and paid time off.
