The Role
The Buyer will support manufacturing operations by managing the procurement of materials, components, and services required to meet production schedules and customer demand. This role sits within the supply chain function and works closely with planning, engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure continuity of supply, cost control, and supplier performance.
This position is well suited to someone with experience purchasing technical or engineered components in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Source and purchase materials and components in line with production requirements
Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders through ERP/MRP systems
Maintain supplier schedules to ensure on-time delivery and material availability
Monitor supplier performance related to cost, quality, and delivery
Negotiate pricing, lead times, and commercial terms with suppliers
Identify and resolve supply issues, shortages, and delivery risks
Support inventory control and stock optimisation initiatives
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, planning, quality, and production teams
Assist with supplier selection, onboarding, and ongoing supplier management
Ensure purchasing activities comply with internal procedures and regulatory requirements
Skills & Experience
Previous experience in a Buyer or Purchasing role within a manufacturing or engineering environment
Experience sourcing electronic components, mechanical parts, or technical materials preferred
Strong understanding of procurement and supply chain principles
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems
Confident communicator with suppliers and internal stakeholders
Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
