In this role, you will support the Department’s structural engineering and construction activities by serving as a key liaison to Inspectors-in-Charge for emergency structural repairs, painting and cleaning contracts, and preventive maintenance work. You will utilize sound engineering judgment to guide field staff, resolve technical issues, and recommend structural design adjustments that help keep construction projects on schedule. Reviewing bridge and structural work in progress to ensure compliance with Department standards and timelines, and provide technical expertise to help IICs interpret plans, specifications, and contract requirements accurately will be an essential part of your duties.
In addition, you will participate in mediating disputes between contractors and inspection personnel, supports the Structural Control Engineer in reviewing demolition plans, and helps direct and monitor test pile and pile dynamic analysis activities. The incumbent provides field support for complex structural challenges, analyzes technical problems, and ensures that all structural work aligns with engineering best practices and Department expectations.
