Assistant Director of Plant Operations

Do you take pride in leading by example, supporting a skilled maintenance team, and solving complex operational challenges? 75 State Street and Avesta Housing is seeking a hands-on, mission-driven Assistant Director of Plant Operations to help oversee building maintenance and grounds operations at our assisted living community.

In this leadership role, you’ll work closely with the Director of Plant Operations to guide daily maintenance activities, support and train maintenance staff, and ensure preventative and emergency repairs are completed efficiently and safely. You’ll help plan workflows, oversee inspections and contractors, support budgeting and inventory, and step in as Acting Director when needed. Every day, your work will directly contribute to a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for residents while advancing Avesta’s mission of improving lives through quality, affordable housing and care.

What We're Looking For

• A reliable and independent individual who has the willingness to learn and grow in a mission-based environment.
• Ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment 
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and exercise individual initiative. 
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. 
• Excellent communication skills.

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. 
• Minimum 3-5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a senior living, healthcare or hospitality environment. Previous supervisory experience a plus. 
• Basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and general repair skills. 
• Ability to use tools, carry equipment and supplies, and climb ladders up to six feet in height.
• Comfortable with technology in order to work with Agency tools, including building-specific controls and systems.
• Valid Driver's License
• Ability to meet facility and state immunization requirements.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software as needed.

This is a full-time, hourly position with opportunity for overtime pay. The general schedule is 9:00am – 5:00pm, plus the need for on-call and working some weekends. The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hour.    

Work Location 

This job is on-site at 75 State Street, Portland, Maine.
